Spaghetti - CEiMB

Turkey Meatballs, Whole Wheat Pasta and Spicy Spaghetti Sauce....

The turkey meatballs and whole wheat pasta were excellent. I will not say the same for the sauce.

I thought that this was an expensive, time consuming recipe. I had to buy large quantities (OK, not large, just way more than I actually needed) of the fresh spices (oregano, thyme, basil and rosemary) because I couldn't buy it in a smaller package. I really have no need for all the extra, leftover spices. I don't think that I liked the smokiness of the sauce that most likely came for the canned chipolte en adobo sauce. It just didn't taste right.

This recipe would have been much better if I had just made the meatballs, whole wheat angel hair pasta and used Prego spaghetti sauce. These really are some tasty meatballs. Especially if you prepare them like Sara suggested by broiling them. I will be making those again. The whole wheat angel hair pasta was really good too. We couldn't even tell the difference between the whole wheat and regular pasta.

This recipe was chosen by Odd Ball Oven Mitt. You can find the original recipe HERE and be sure to check out how all the other CEiMB participants fared as well.

Coming next week: Garden Risotto

I'm sorry you didn't like the sauce; I wasn't sure how the smokiness would pair with the other flavors either, but it smelled good. I didn't get to try it because I made it too spicy. I don't like having to buy a ton of fresh herbs either so I usually use dried. I think you can freeze the herbs you have and use them again later so they don't go to waste.

I agree on the "way too much of" in re- to the chipotle peppers. I have a whole can of those little fire balls and not sure what to do with them. Ted's not a fan of the peppery heat. We liked the sauce but not so much the turkey balls - although I enjoyed the flavor of my version of meatless meat balls.

Sorry this didn't do it for you! I used dried oregano and thyme, plucked a bit of rosemary off of the teeny tiny plant I need to get in the ground, and bought basil, which I figured I could use in other things. I freeze the leftover chipotle and then break some off to use when I have a recipe that calls for it. Hope you like the risotto better next week!

Hmm. I have to agree with you on this one. Chipotle in sauce? Doesn't belong there.

Sorry it didn't work for you.

I didn't use any fresh herbs. I put in dried oregano because that's what I thought the recipe called for. And I couldn't find any rosemary, so I skipped it. Sorry it wasn't a winner for you all around. But I really enjoyed the meatballs, too!

I'm glad I left the chipotle out. Loved the meatballs. You'll have to let me know what brand of spaghetti you used. I feel like I have tried all the whole wheat ones and we didn't like any of them!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the meatballs, they look great. I have never tried the sauce since I don't really like spicy things. I'd rather have some plain marinara with them.

I totally missed out on this weeks recipe. I wanted to cook this on Thursday, but due to the events on Queensday I didn't feel like cooking at all....
